After
completion
of
qualifying
for
the
NASCAR
Sprint
Cup
Series
Goody's
Fast
Orange
500
at
Martinsville,
James
Hylton
was
given
the
opportunity
to
once
again
get
behind
the
wheel
of a
71
Mercury
Montego.
Hylton
was
invited
to
the
Wood
Brothers
Museum
in
Stuart,
VA by
Leonard
Wood
and
was
able
to
find
himself
once
again
at
the
helm
of a
of a
71
Mercury
Montego
NASCAR
Grand
National
stock
car.
In
1972,
Hylton
purchased
a 71
Mercury
Montego
from
the
Wood
Brothers
and
later
drove
the
car
to
victory
in
the
1972
Talladega
500.
This
was
the
first
time
that
Hylton
had
been
behind
the
wheel
of a
71
Mercury
since
attempting
to
qualify
his
Mercury
for
the
1974
Winston
Western
500
at
Riverside,
CA.
Unfortunately
the
car
crashed
during
practice
and
did
not
qualify
for
the
event.
James
climbed
into
the
drivers
seat
of
the
number
21
Mercury
and
cranked
up
the
massive
Boss
429,
filling
the
Virginia
hillsides
with
the
sweet
sound
of
horsepower.
Hylton
Motorsports
would
like
to
thank
Leonard,
Eddie,
Carol,
Len
and
Jon
Wood
for
their
hospitality
and
for
allowing
us a
chance
to
relive
history.
