Inman SC (August 5, 2007) – During his storied career, stock car racing legend James Hylton has never been one to let a task go uncompleted.  That was evident this weekend at the ARCA RE/MAX Series Pennsylvania 200 at Pocono Raceway, as the 72-year-old owner/driver competed in his first ARCA RE/MAX Series race of 2007.  Hylton  Motorsports brought the number 48 SLMCO Pure Water Systems Dodge Charger to Pocono Speedway this weekend for New Jersey driver Art Seeger to race.  However, an unfortunate turn of events left the team without a driver only a few hours before qualifying.

James Hylton, a veteran of 676 major sanctioning body starts, did not want the team to be sidelined for the weekend so he decided to come out of retirement and attempt to qualify the car. Hylton retired from fulltime ARCA RE/MAX Series competition after the 2006 season and has not competed in a race since the NASCAR NEXTEL CUP Series Gatorade 150 in February 2007.  After only a few laps of practice, Hylton piloted the Dodge to a lap of 58.763 (153.158 mph) around the famed Pennsylvania speedway.  Hylton’s qualifying lap was good enough for a 30th starting position for Saturday’s race.

During the race, the car proved strong and Hylton ran as high as second mid-way through the 80-lap event. However, fuel line problems soon put the car five laps down late in the race with Hylton finishing a respectable 22nd place.  “The crew was very professional and kept their cool in a tense situation and got a serious mechanical issue resolved quickly” stated Hylton.  The number 48 SLMCO Pure Water Systems Dodge Charger soon returned to the track and was running at the finish.

The Pennsylvania 200 was won by Michael McDowell of Phoenix, Arizona in the Eddie Sharp Racing - Z Line Racing Dodge.  While being disappointed by the fuel line issues, Hylton was impressed with the team’s effort.  “This was probably the strongest car that I have ever driven at Pocono” said Hylton. “My crew chief, James Hylton Jr. and the whole  crew did a terrific job this weekend.”
